Helping You Make the biggest move of your life
Welcome to the shipmates & oppos programme
Helping you make the biggest move of your life.
Joining the Naval Service is a big step: leaving it can be an even bigger one. Making the transition to Civvy Street isn’t always easy, especially if you’ve got a family, or you’re dealing with jobs, housing and money for the first time. The Shipmates Programme is here to help.
WHAT IS THE SHIPMATES & OPPOS PROGRAMME?
The Programme is the ‘arm around your shoulder’ for ALL Naval Service leavers. You can get whatever practical, financial and social support you need, and stay connected to the Naval Service Family – and it’s FREE.
WHO’S IT FOR?
If you’ve left (or you’re about to leave) the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, QARNNS, the respective Reserves, or the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, we’re here for you. The Programme is open is open to all former Ratings, Other Ranks and Officers and their families, regardless of length of service even if you've only served for one day.
WHAT CAN IT DO FOR ME?
You can contact us any time for practical help and advice. We can assist with all aspects of getting settled in civilian life, including:
1. Finding help for you from the many charities and organisations set up to help Service leavers 2. Managing finances 3. Accommodation 4. CVs, interviews and securing a new job 4. Updating and building on your skills and qualifications 5. Helping your family adjust to a new location and finding a network of support
When you join the Programme, you’ll also receive one year’s FREE membership of your chosen Service association. It’s a great way to meet up with your fellow Shipmates and Oppos, and get advice and support from those who’ve already made the transition.
